Meet The Staff

Dr. Steven Barrett, D.C., C.C.S.P. ® 

It does not get much better than this…a professional, caring, sincere, gentle, passionate, experienced, and educated doctor! One of the best in his field, Dr. Steven Barrett offers professional quality care to everyone who walks in the door. A graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, Dr. Barrett has been in practice since 1995. However, his drive to keep learning has not slowed down. In 2009, Dr. Barrett earned his Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician degree. During his training for his post-graduate degree, he learned specialized techniques in evaluation and treating sports injuries of not only the spine, but of all joints in the human body. With this degree, it also allowed Dr. Barrett to be a PSC/PGA certified sports medicine team member.

He is continuously expanding his knowledge of healing and chiropractic, as his practice is growing to be more inclusive and holistic. As he sees it, it is not just about adjustments, it is an entire lifestyle. There is so much more to health than the absence of symptoms.

Dr. Barrett is not only a phenomenal chiropractor, but also a loving father of three beautiful children whom he adores (the feelings are mutual!). Having grown up in Southern Illinois, Dr. Barrett has remained connected to his own family and the land. He is a truly spiritual man whose passion for life is contagious.

On the more technical side, Dr. Barrett employs his Pettibon training and techniques for adjustments and postural exercise training. In order to enhance overall spinal care, we also offer non-surgical decompression therapy, therapeutic message, digital x-rays, computer based testing and examination and patient education. Dr. Barrett makes sure the office is full of educational information and products to encourage a holistic lifestyle, including everything from books, to bags and pillows. He also creates a warm friendly environment in the office with his staff members who are well trained and willing to help patients achieve their goal of greater health. Dr. Barrett practices what he preaches...living a well balanced life, committed to helping and healing in any way he can.

Dr. Miles French

Dr. Miles French, M.D. graduated from University of Alberta specializing in Family Practice Medicine in 1994. Now well established in Southern Illinois, Dr. French has worked in several different clinics in the area. When Dr. French is not working here at SIMPLE Spinal Health & Medical Center, he can be found in various emergency rooms working as an ER physician. Dr. French joined our multi-disciplinary clinic in October 2008. In his off-hours, he enjoys spending time with his children and riding his motorcycles.

Dr. Brian C. Carlton

Dr. Brian C. Carlton, a southern Illinois native, joined the practice in September 2010. A 2009 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic, Dr. Carlton also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Biology from Logan University. Dr. Carlton is board certified and licensed to practice Chiropractic in the State of Illinois. Combining a “hands on technique” with state of the art facilities, Dr. Carlton stands committed to providing quality care while promoting the well being of patients.

Mary Kay Cattaneo, P.T.

Mary Kay Cattaneo is a lifelong resident of Southern Illinois. She was born and raised and currently resided in Herrin, IL. She attended Southwest Baptist University where she attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 1995. While developing her clinical skills, she went on to receive a Master’s Degree from Southern Illinois University in Rehabilitation Administration and Services in 1998. Mary Kay has maintained various clinical roles as well as administrative positions in her 15 years of physical therapy experience. She has worked as a staff Physical Therapist in both the Outpatient and Inpatient settings as well as Home Health Services. Mary Kay is a caring and compassionate therapist who strives on providing one on one care to her patients. She is dedicated to helping patients understand the importance of their condition and provides them with the material and resources needed to help them cope or improve their overall status.

Heather

What would this office be without Heather? She does it all, from handling the front office, and leading physical therapy sessions, to brightening up the office with her contagious laughter and abundant kindness. In addition, she assists Dr. Barrett in performing computer based testing, x-rays, and treating patients. She seems to know everything. Having worked for Dr. Barrett since 2002, she is extremely committed and is continually learning more about the practice and the patients. She treats everyone like family and is never anything but warm and friendly. A true asset to the clinic, Heather connects everything together, keeping the practice running smoothly and professionally.

Jennifer

With 12 years of experience in the medical field, Jennifer takes on a bulk of the insurance duties, but is by no mean limited to them. She can answer any insurance or billing question that patients have regarding their health benefit coverage in our office. Jennifer joined our staff in 2008 to help with the transition from a chiropractic clinic to a multi-disciplinary clinic.

Sky

Trained as a CNA, Sky is the beaming voice behind our reception desk. Having joined our staff in the summer of 2009, she has become an integral part of the office by taking over the front office duties as well as assisting patients with their treatments. She has been a lifelong resident of Southern Illinois.

Barbara

Barbara joined our staff in 2010 in the billing department. She is skilled in Medicate billing due to her 30 years of experience in the industry. A devoted mother and grandmother, Barb adds a smiling face to our team.

Alice

Born at Carbondale Hospital, Alice grew up south of Murphysboro and graduated from Murphysboro High School in 2005. She wanted to become a M.T. to be a part of complimentary health care and being able to massage to help people heal naturally. Alice attended John A. Logan College for the Massage Program and has been licensed since October 2009. She is thankful to be a part of the client’s healing process and feels rewarded daily seeing smiling people who feel better.

Lindsey

Lindsey was born and raised in Southern Illinois. She attended the Massage Program at John A. Logan College and has been practicing for 2 years. She wanted to become a massage therapist because she has always been interested in its healing properties. Lindsey enjoys seeing the effects she has on people, helping to relieve their pain and being able to enjoy life more. “I really love helping people decrease their stress, help them relax, and relieve their pain. It makes me feel great knowing I’m helping someone feel better! I love my job and couldn’t image doing anything different.”

Crystal

Crystal has lived in Southern Illinois for 10 years. She graduated from John A. Logan College in May 2008 with High Honors. She has worked for the SIMPLE Spinal Health practice for 2.5 years. Crystal became a massage therapist to enhance the quality of people’s lives. “Longevity has increased with medical technology yet people live with chronic pain and stress. I decided I wanted to help decrease pain and stress naturally in others without the use of medication”.

Susan

Susan has lived most her of her life in Southern Illinois. She attended John A. Logan College for the Massage Program and has been practicing massage therapy for 3 years. Susan wanted to become a MT to help people become well and whole. “It gives me a lot of satisfaction knowing I can help as part of our team at SIMPLE. To see our patients go from being pain to being well and whole, leading productive and enjoyable lives again, is a daily reminder of the great work we do.”
